Our db300 Remote ID module is now Blue UAS approved

Good news! Our db300 Remote ID module has been approved on the U.S. Department of Defense Blue UAS Framework. We launched the db300 in December 2025 as a Blue UAS ready module. Since 10 July 2026 it’s officially approved, and as of today it’s the only Standard Remote ID module on the Blue UAS Framework. You can find it on the official Framework List (search for “db300”).

What is Blue UAS?

The Blue UAS program of the U.S. Department of Defense (Department of War) vets drones and drone components for government use. It covers NDAA compliance as well as cybersecurity and supply-chain security. The approval confirms that the db300 complies with NDAA Sections 848 and 889, so it contains no components from covered countries such as China.

What the rules mean for drone manufacturers

Selling drones to US government or federally funded customers means meeting several rules at once. Since 22 December 2025, the American Security Drone Act bars federal agencies, contractors and grant recipients from buying drones from covered foreign entities. NDAA Section 848 extends this to critical components such as radios, which includes your Remote ID module. And since the same date, the FCC Covered List blocks new authorizations for covered drones and critical components. That’s not an issue for the db300: its radio module already has FCC authorization, so no new authorization is needed. Read more in our overview of Remote ID rules in the United States.

Save time and costs

Are you a drone manufacturer in the USA, or selling drones to US government or defense customers? Then your drone needs Remote ID, and often a Blue UAS review of the complete drone. That review covers every component, and for a complex drone with many components the costs can easily run well above $100,000. The idea of the Blue UAS program is that you build with components that are already approved, like the db300: they don’t need to be assessed again. Saves costs and time! With the db300, the Remote ID part of your drone is already covered. That is true even if you already have your own Remote ID module: it would still have to be assessed in your drone’s review, and the db300 does not.

Not going for Blue UAS yet? Then the db300 makes your drone future-proof: if you later want government or defense customers, the Remote ID part is already approved, and you won’t need to redesign it.

With the db300, that work has already been done:

  • Blue UAS approved and NDAA compliant (Sections 848 and 889).
  • FCC/CE certified radio module (u-blox BMD-345 with Nordic nRF52840), broadcasting Bluetooth 4 Legacy and Bluetooth 5 Long Range.
  • Works with ArduPilot and PX4 over MAVLink or DroneCAN (CAN 2.0 and CAN FD).
  • Software drop-in for our db201: the same MAVLink and DroneCAN messages, so no changes on the autopilot side.
  • Small: 27.5 × 27.5 mm and 2.5 grams.
  • Manufactured by a company who builds Remote ID receivers and transmitter and is part of the ASTM committee on the Remote ID.

Help with your FAA Declaration of Compliance

A Standard Remote ID drone needs an FAA-accepted Declaration of Compliance (DoC) from its manufacturer. In our partner program, we provide a manual and template to get your FAA DoC accepted quickly, and share our knowledge of EMC and international regulations.

Also new firmware

The db300 firmware 1.4 has been released today too with these new features:

  • CAN FD support.
  • Firmware updates over CAN (using for instance DroneCAN GUI Tool), in addition to Bluetooth (OTA) and SWD. Update the module inside the drone, without opening it up.
  • Extra CAN functions, such as erase all and transport statistics.
  • Bug fixes: robust parameters configuration over MAVLink/DroneCAN, and fixes for firmware updates over Bluetooth.
