DroneScout Bridge the ultimate RemoteID receiver for iOS, Android and drone
BlueMark introduces DroneScout Bridge, a small unique device that allows smartphones (iOS, Android) to receive drone RemoteID signals. This wireless number plate technology is mandatory for most drones in Japan, USA and the European Union. It can also be mounted on a drone for Detect And Avoid (DAA) applications.
The introduction of DroneScout Bridge marks a new era for drone RemoteID. When the standard was designed, it was envisioned that citizens could download an app and see the drones around them. Especially, because the number of drone flights is expected to rise exponentially the next few years. However, in practice major smartphone operating systems like Android, iOS decided to limit functionality to preserve not only the privacy of citizens, but also to extend the smartphone battery life.
As a result, nowadays smartphones can’t detect popular nearby RemoteID-enabled drones. In technical terms, the RemoteID transmission modes WLAN Beacon and Bluetooth Long Range are not supported by the vast majority of devices. It is also unclear if this will change in future.
DroneScout Bridge is a small device (46 by 14 mm and 3.5 gram) that will solve this detection problem. It will receive RemoteID signals and converts them to a wireless signal that your smartphone understands. A wireless relay! It can also be configured to output the data on a serial MAVLink v2 interface. This is useful in DAA (Detect and Avoid) drone applications.
